Ke Lu
Eastern Region Candidate

I am running for Eastern Region Director of AGA Board because of my passion for Go, my desire to increase the popularity of Go, and my duty as a go player to help others to improve the skills.

I have done so by teaching Go, organizing Go tournament and bringing Go to the media.

My teaching experience can be traced back when I was in Philadelphia several years ago. I helped Mr. Phil Straus with the Go demo at Cherry Blossom Festival. I was alarmed that so many people never heard of Go. At the same time, I was satisfied because they got interested once they knew the rule. Ever since then, I have been teaching people how to play Go at public gatherings and in several Chinese schools including Newton Chinese Language School, Huaxin School of Arts and Sharon Chinese School. In addition, I set up GBCCA Go Club in Newton, MA. The club meets every Friday night and is free to the public.

I have accumulated a lot of organization skills by organizing Go tournaments. These events include: Boston vs Los Angeles Team Tournament (6/7-8, 2008); the first (5/24, 2008) Boston Go Open (Qualifier of NAIM & WMSG); the first (5/27, 2007) and second (4/19-20, 2008) GBCCA Youth Go Tournament (Qualifier of US Youth Go Championship); USA vs Canada Team Tournament (10/26-29, 2007) and the second Boston vs New Jersey Team Tournament (2006). I worked very hard to ensure a timely start of tournaments, and results are always posted promptly.

I have used every opportunity to publicize Go. I was interviewed several times by the World Journal, the biggest Chinese newspaper in US, about the games. I made announcement of Go tournament in both Chinese and Korean newspapers. In addition, I play teaching game in popular Internet-based virtual world, Second Life.

I hope that what I told you has demonstrated my support for the development of Go-playing communities. This is the first reason why I believe that I will be able to serve the best interests of Go players in the United States.

The second reason is that I am active in both English and Chinese Go forums. I made insightful suggestions about women Go tournament at godiscussions.com and my ideas were accepted by organizer of US Go Congress last year. My report on USA vs Canada team tournament at TOM Go forum attracted more than 14,000 clicks. I am good friend of many Go players both locally and along eastern coast.

The third reason is that I am an active and skillful Go player. Being an AGA 5 dan player, I ranked the 15th place of Open Category in the 4th Iwamoto Tournament last year, which is the best position among all United States players. In addition, I also have been playing a lot of turn-based Go. I am 5d in both Dragon Go Server (DGS) and Online-Go Server (OGS). I was the first 19x19 board title holder in OGS.
